Pender Island Public Library
Guidelines, Policy for Internet Access
- The Pender Island Public Library has no control
over the information available through the Internet and cannot be held
responsible for its content.
- The Pender Island Public Library reserves the right
to deny the use of its Internet terminals to users who access sites
that promote illegal activities.
- Violation by a patron of Copyright laws while using
Library equipment is not permitted and the Pender Island Public Library
is not responsible for such violations by patrons.
- The Internet terminals may be reserved for use by
patrons at the rate of $1 per hour or part thereof. (Call 629-3722
to reserve a terminal.) Prior to first using a terminal, the patron
will be asked to complete and sign a disclaimer form acknowledging that
they have read and agree to the terms of usage and will be asked to
provide a local telephone contact number. This form will be kept
on file for subsequent terminal uses.
- Parents or guardians are responsible for their children's
use of the Internet. Children 14 years and under MUST be accompanied
by an adult who will sign the disclaimer on their behalf.
- Internet users are responsible for any commercial
transactions made while using Pender Island Public Library Internet
terminals.
- Patron's own peripherals such as cameras and laptops
may not be connected to the Pender Island Public Library computers and
personal software may not be installed on Pender Island Public Library
computer terminals. Patrons who download data to a disk do so
at their own risk.
- The Pender Island Public Library is not responsible
for damage to a users' disk or computer, or for any loss of data, damage
or liability that may occur from using the Pender Island Public Library
computers.
- Users shall be liable and will reimburse the Pender
Island Public Library for repair costs if any damage to the Pender Island
Public Library computer equipment results from their misuse of the equipment.
Such misuse may also result in the denial to the patron of future computer
use privileges.
