How did the Library come into being?
The Pender Island Public Library first came into being in November 1973, under the guidance of Marjorie Bailey and with the help of an enthusiastic group of colleagues. At this time the library was located in the back room of the Pender Island Community Church. In 1976 the library moved to the building on the grounds of the Auchterlonie Centre, next to the Nu-To-Yu. This 'old library' building now houses the Playschool. Today as always, the library is run by volunteers and Marjorie continues to be a fully active volunteer.
