NOTICE TO PENDER ISLAND POWER  & SAIL SQUADRON MEMBERS CONCERNING PROTECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION



Dear Squadron Member,

As of January 1, 2004 the British Columbia government has enacted the Personal Information Act and the federal government has enacted the Personal Information and Electronic Documents Act. The purpose of these pieces of legislation is to regulate the collection, use and disclosure of personal information. The provincial act's ten principles are accountability, identifying purposes of information, consent, limited collection of personal information, limited use of personal information, disclosure and retention, accuracy, safeguards, openness, individual access, and challenging compliance. In this respect, we would ask you to read the following agreement carefully.  

Protection of Personal Information Agreement


As a result of your membership in Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons, Pender Island Power and Sail Squadron may have collected some or all of the following personal information from you:

-  Your name, address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address

-  Your membership number, courses completed and membership year

-  Your boat name, type and length

-  Your date of birth

The personal information identified above may be used by the Pender Island Power and Sail Squadron in the maintenance of our membership records, in the publication of the Vancouver Island South District Roster, for the mailing and/or e-mailing of Squadron newsletters and event notices, and in the organization of student cruises and social events. We only disclose your personal information to our Roster advertisers who receive a single printed copy of the Roster in return for their advertising contribution. We do not disclose your personal information to other third parties outside of Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons. We may disclose your personal information where we are required to do so by law. By providing your information to us, you have consented to these uses and disclosures.
