Our newsletter, the Rare Bird

The Rare Bird is currently produced four times per year. It contains book reviews, news articles, special features and is a vehicle for sharing ideas and keeping up to date. Members of CLABC receive each issue by postal mail. The title for our newsletter was first used in Vol. 1, No. 3, March 1972. That issue says "Rare birds are people who care enough to know. People who know and care enough to do something."  It goes on to explain the choice of name:
"Years ago, Jackie Pitzl of the Pacific Northwest Association of Church Libraries, a church librarian for the First United Presbyterian Church in Puyallup, Washington, used a "Rare Bird" to highlight a display of books. It caught people's eye and brought them over to look at the books. The idea caught on. Rare Bird "banners" models etc. have been used in B. C.  to do the same thing. And what do you know, RARE BIRD is going to be the name of our newsletter! ..."
